[EDIT]: Okay, okay, everyone! I understand that this isn't the way and only a way you can do it. I never said, that it was the way, geez...
These are a few little rules, I use when drawing girls.
6 heads tall: the human body is usually 6-7 heads tall. I'm used to working with the 6-heads tall kind of body.
Waist-elbow: it seriously ticks me off, when people get this wrong; the elbows aren't above or below the waist line, it's ON the line! Also, I forgot to add, that the waist line is halfway between the shoulders and hips.
Hip-wrist: same as with the waist line and elbows. The hips are also halfway between the top of the head and the ground.
Knees: halfway down the actual legs. The femurs and crura are approx. the same length (measuring from labia majora to knee and knee to ankle).
